Four Moments, Four Objects: The Art of Preserving Memories

Ask most people how they would preserve the memory of a moment they want to relive, and they’ll tell you the same thing: take lots of pictures and tons of videos.

But what happens when you want real proof that you attended the first electric powerboat race in Nigeria in real-time?

There are moments you’re only willing to live in; yet once they’re over, the photos you didn’t take aren’t coming back. What’s left is the memory, and whatever object was there to carry it forward.

That’s the gap an award, a trophy, or a keepsake fills. These objects, when they’re built for the moment, don’t just serve as proof that it happened; they become something people can pick up years later and relive the moment.

We keep this in mind every time we manufacture custom awards, trophies, branded gifts, or event keepsakes. We don’t start with a catalogue and hope to stumble on something that works.

We start with the occasion, figure out what it means to the people in the room, and then build the physical piece around that meaning.

Here’s what that looked like across four very different moments in one year.

Starz Group: Forty Years, One Award to Recognise the People Who Made it Happen

Starz group turned 40 in 2026. Four decades in an industry where most companies don’t make it past ten is not just a milestone; it’s a proof point, and their anniversary gala needed to say so without words.

But there was one big question: How do you recognise the people who have shown up for the brand consistently for forty years? The consensus was to do that with awards that serve as proof of unwavering gratitude for trusting the brand, or as the case may apply, recognition of a job well-done.

They commissioned us to make the awards for the milestone event. The brief wasn’t to make something that said “congratulations” or “thank you”; it was to make something that felt worthy of forty years: substantial and valuable enough to still be sitting on desks years after the event.

Safe to say we executed this task excellently.

When Fandom Finally Got Recognition: Awards That Tell a Story for AniWe Convention 2026

For a long time, Nigeria’s anime fandom lived in WhatsApp groups and one-off cosplay photos of people who loved the same thing but had never stood in the same room. Then the AniWe Convention gave them a room, and hundreds of fans showed up to fill it.

A gathering like that needed its own language of unique recognition, not an award that easily qualifies for anything else.

As official awards partner for the AniWe convention 2026, Meta4 designed and manufactured 34 fully custom pieces from scratch for winners across the convention’s cosplay, art and community categories.

The awards were designed around the AniWe brand mascot, so it looked like the fandom it belonged to. From concept to 3D design to finished piece, all done from scratch right here in Nigeria and delivered in time for the event. That’s what it means for an object to carry the weight of a moment.

Custom Keepsakes for E1 Lagos 2025

Until 2025, electric powerboats had never touched African water. So, when the debut edition of the E1 boat race took place in Lagos in 2025, the organizers needed custom keepsakes to carry the memory of the event forward.

So, what did we do? We created desk pieces and glitter globes, both replicas of the actual race boats that were used at the event.

This is something most event organizers lose sight of when procuring event souvenirs: they opt for easy to obtain items that say nothing about the event or the significance of the moment.

In truth, event souvenirs should be inspired by a core brand or event element so that when recipients use or talk about the object after the event, they’re transported right back to the moment.

For E1 Lagos 2025, we created tangible objects that were small enough to sit on a desk, but specific enough that anyone who picks one up knows exactly which race and the day boat racing made history in Lagos.

GITEX 2025: Two Tech Capitals, One Event Souvenir

GITEX has run in Dubai for years, growing into one of the world’s biggest tech and trade showcases. In 2025, it landed in Lagos, Nigeria for the first time and the organisers asked Meta4 to produce a souvenir marking that first Nigerian edition.

The keepsakes for a monumental event like this had to tell a story of the moment where Dubai met Lagos. We created 100 pieces of a souvenir that represented the Dubai culture (with a Camel and the Mashrabiya pattern) and spoke for the Lagos or Nigerian heritage (with the Eyo figurine and Adire patterns).

We didn’t set out to create a generic conference souvenir; we wanted to create a piece that was worthy of the moment and premium enough to be gifted to HNIs at the event.

After the Applause Ends: Objects as Memory Anchors

Different sectors and four wildly different occasions, yet every piece started the same way: find out what the moment actually meant, then let the object carry that meaning forward.

So, while planning your next event, here are some pertinent questions you should be asking:

  • What objects are we giving out to carry the memory of this moment forward?
  • How are we ensuring that our brand stays in people’s minds after the event?

We ask these questions every time we set out to create something new. For these events, these objects were our answers. What will it be for your next event?
