UBA at 75: Befitting Plaques to Celebrate Pan-African Legacy 

Brand Overview 

United Bank for Africa (UBA) is one of Africa’s leading financial institutions, with a rich history spanning over seven decades. Known as “Africa’s Global Bank,” UBA operates in more than 20 African countries as well as international financial hubs in London, Paris, New York, and Dubai. 

The Milestone 

When United Bank for Africa (UBA) turned 75, it wasn’t just a milestone; it was a celebration of resilience, growth, and a presence that stretches across Africa and beyond. 

To mark this milestone, the bank organized a celebratory event. However, marking such a milestone required appreciating some of the people who do the work and contributed to bringing the bank this far.  

To do this, the Bank wanted a custom award that could be presented at the event, one that wouldn’t just recognize excellence but also capture UBA’s identity as Africa’s global bank. 

The Ask 

UBA wanted a design that would serve as both a trophy and a statement piece—one that reflected the bank’s African roots while honoring individuals and partners who have been part of its journey.  

The award needed to be prestigious, timeless, and deeply tied to the bank’s identity. 

The Creation 

Meta4 rose to the challenge by crafting an award shaped like the map of Africa.  

This design choice was intentional—Africa is not just UBA’s origin, it’s the heartbeat of its operations and impact.  

The process began with a conversation with the UBA team to understand the event and the ideas they had in mind, then we moved swiftly into ideation. 

First, our design team came up with initial illustrations of the proposed award concepts which we shared with the client.  

Next, we moved into prototyping–we created a sample piece to give the client a clear sense of scale, finish, and material quality; then, we proceeded to creating the awards from scratch. 

Each award was designed with multiple parts: 

  • An acrylic top  
  • An FDM-manufactured base engraved with the name of the bank 

Once production was done, we designed and manufactured custom boxes to house each award. These were also shared with the client for approval before final production. 

The Outcome 

The awards became more than just commemorative items; they were physical expressions of UBA’s promise: Rooted in Africa, yet reaching the world.  

Each recipient didn’t just take home a trophy; they carried a piece of UBA’s story, vision, and pride. 

We didn’t just deliver trophies but symbols that will be remembered long after the celebration.
